Dress of the Week: Kimberly by Vera Wang

This week we chose a wedding dress that is far from traditional. Kimberly by Vera Wang is a bold red, floor length dress with several different textures. These gorgeous textures start at the neckline, with hand-cut Chantilly lace applique placed so that the edges of the lace sit against your skin like semi-transparent wisps of flower petals, or springtime leaf buds. The uninterrupted layers of organza have perfect fluidity as there are no seams between the skirt and bodice. There’s also a ruffled, cascading effect in the bottom of the skirt. An almost-obscured, big, abstract flower floats in the base of the skirt – just a little burst of pleated tulle and eyelash tissue organza that is so lighthearted and joyous. On the back of the gown there is a beautiful, voluminous train that is tacked and bustled, with floating pieces of lace appliqué inserted into the organza layers that pop. This gown is the definition of controlled chaos.

Advice We Love: Holiday Beauty by Sharon Becker of SB Beauty

New York City turns every season into a special occasion, but December holidays in New York are extra special. Visitors from all over the world descend on Midtown Manhattan to enjoy the lights and festive atmosphere, and we New Yorkers get to revel in the glow of all the decorations in offices, homes, store windows, and even city busses. What I enjoy most is attending holiday parties (you never have to beg me to wear sparkles) and toasting my friends and colleagues.
So, with parties, gift shopping, decorating, and travel, the holidays are busy. How do you quickly and easily adapt your makeup to suit the season?  Add one or two new products! Depending on your age and personality, you can emphasize one or two features. (We are talking holiday parties, not Mardi Gras).
LIPS: Red is a natural choice for a holiday lipstick, and it comes in every shade and form imaginable. If you wear a gorgeous red as a change, you can keep the rest of your makeup simple. To keep your lipstick from fading at a party when you’re eating and drinking, start with MAC Lasting Lust, $23. Another long-wearing shade for holiday is Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Intense #21 (pearly bright red), $19.

You can also use one of your favorite lipsticks and glide a glitter gloss on top; try LORAC 3D Liquid Lustre in either gold glitter or silver shimmer. Easy, and only $16! Sephora brand also has a Glossy Gloss that has a few high shimmer shades, and that’s just $10.

EYES: Let’s create some pop without breaking the bank! If you like to have fun with makeup (and you should – makeup is fun), then pick up Sephora’s Glitter Eyeliner and Mascara combo, which comes in a dozen flashy shades. Swipe it on your regular makeup look for an easy and very festive change.

A more subtle holiday shine can be achieved by using one of your favorite light shimmer shadows on the inner corner of your eye (tear duct area). Use a small natural bristle brush and pat the shadow onto the top and bottom of the tear duct V, blending it into your other shadows and liner for a seamless look. Finish with a little extra mascara in the area so that your lashes don’t catch the shadow. If you’re feeling extra frisky, you can swipe a tiny bit of the same shimmer shadow across the top of your cheekbones for a subtle highlight. Voila!
BODY: For New Year’s Eve, try a little glitter spray. Hey, it’s on sale at Sephora for $7! On January 2, give it to your niece.

All great makeup looks start with beautiful skin, so take care of yourself in December – eat good food, rest, drink plenty of water, exercise, and smile!

Dress Of The Week: Sarah Jassir’s Iris

This dress of the week is part of Sarah Jassir’s collection.  The Iris is a tulle ball gown with organza ruched bodice with lace appliques.  Just this past week, Sarah Jassir’s bridal salon announced its opening in New York City.  This particular dress is from a collection inspired by the “creative process” itself.  Congratulations Sarah Jassir and thank you for all your stunning dresses.

{CUE Real Corporate Event}: Informatica 2011

After our numerous CUE Real Wedding posts, the girls at CUE thought it was a real treat when we received the opportunity to share with you our new CUE Real Corporate Event featuring Informatica.

This was CUE’s third annual collaboration with Informatica! We were hired not only for our planning expertise, but for our keen eye for design. The Estrela Penthouse at Le Parker Meridien NY is a beautiful space with gorgeous views.  Our task was to divide the room into two: one side dedicated as a meeting space and the other for a cocktail reception.

Inspired by the event title, The Decadence, we positioned huge blocks of decadent chocolate across the reception tables as centerpieces. There was also a chocolate fountain and a delicious chocolate cake created by Nine Cakes all perfectly complemented by Warre’s Vintage Porto.

Immensely popular were miniature omelets prepared by chefs from Norma’s restaurant at Le Parker Meridian, famous for its Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s most expensive omelet at $1000.

All of these components played into the decadent theme. Here are some photos taken throughout the event:

Venue: Le Parker Meridian New York Hotel

Florist: Spina De’fiori

Chocolate Cake: Nine Cakes

Chocolate Fountain: Divalicious Chocolate

Designer: Curtain Up Events

It was such a pleasure working with Informatica again and we look forward to working with them for years to come.

Dress of the Week: Marchesa

Here is another featured gown from a designer who takes it from the red carpet to your wedding aisle! Believing every bride should dress to the 9’s, Marchesa melds bridal designs with high fashion to create gorgeously distinctive dresses.

From their Spring 2011 bridal collection, here is the dress that stood out most to us:

The designers, Georgina and Keren, named this piece Collette. It is a strapless silk chiffon gown with draped cascade rose detail.

The Collette can be worn in any setting, whether in a ballroom, a garden or on the beach. Wherever you are, it’s the perfect dress.

Marchesa is based in New York and can be found in department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman as well as in boutiques the world over!

What other Marchesa pieces did you fall in love with?

{CUE Real Wedding}: Martina + Michael

Romance is the central theme of any love story and red roses are a universally recognized symbol of romance. When many fantasize about their perfect day they envision it abundantly adorned with those scarlet petals. Newlyweds Martina and Michael were thrilled to realize their dream. Using plentiful pops of red and retelling their romance by replacing table numbers with the names of places meaningful to them, Martina and Michael successfully created a wedding based on the true reasons for their happiness.

The girls at CUE had a blast planning this wedding as well as executing it. Congratulations to Martina and Michael and may you create many more rosy memories together as husband and wife!
