Dress of the Week: BHLDN

The buzz was well worth it! BHLDN has created a lovely, yet uncommon, line of gowns for the alternative bride. Many still carry with them the romantic feel of a traditional wedding gown while offering a whimsical twist for those brides looking for something unexpected. Here are three of our favorite dresses showing different styles, and for some, a new color palate.

Our first gown, the Ethereal Monarch Gown, has a throng of appliquéd butterflies gently drifting down the organza dress. With straps, as opposed to the popular strapless style of today, it opens up into a simple A-line hem. At the base, a tulle hemline peeks out to say hello.  The BHLDN website describes it as, “Elegant folds at the bodice gently accentuate the bust and narrow the waist, for a fit that’s flattering on all body types.” This dress tends toward the higher end of the pricing scale at $3,200.

The Floral Artwork dress pictured above is another of our favorites. This playful and flirty tea length gown, with it’s bubble skirt organza overlay, gives brides an alternative to the usual floor length gown. The silk dress also has hand-jeweled flower appliqués underneath, and is finished with an unlooped half-bow at the back. This $1,800 piece of attire is sure to make one sassy statement!

Finally, the stunning silk layering of the Burnished Organza Gown is instantaneously eye-catching.  The sweetheart neckline is lavishly adorned with bronze sequins. This simple yet elegant garment is stunning and one of the more affordable dresses in the line, retailing at only $1,400.

The first glimpse of what BHLDN has to offer has been truly delightful, and their design team has created unique and whimsical looks for brides who don’t want to stick to the norm. We look forward to seeing what else these trailblazers have to offer!

The BHLDN Un-“Veil”ing is finally here!

For years now we’ve followed the hip, sophisticated, and downright funky style of Urban Outfitters and Anthrolpologie as they’ve taunted us with comfortable tops, beautiful dresses, delightful pants, and edgy home decor.

This fabulous brand has finally decided to create a new bridal line! Up until now we’ve only had hints and flashes of the details of the dresses at the new line’s website www.BHLDN.com.

Luckily, Women’s Wear Daily caught up with the creators and got a preview of the non-traditional dresses. “Rather than traditional gowns, BHLDN is more likely to make a large, lopsided taffeta bow the focal point of a dress, give a wedding gown an unfinished hem or cover elaborate pearl-studded flowers with a sheer layer of tulle so only a hint of the decoration is visible,” says Sharon Eldelson, writer for WWD. We’re excited because it appears the design team has managed to maintain their refined, yet urban style in this line of wedding gowns.  “We’ve taken DNA from Anthropologie,” Kristin Norris, BHLDN’s managing director said. “I kind of think of BHLDN as the sophisticated older sister.” This line is meant to be a nod to the avante-garde bride, with styles ranging from $1000 to $4000,  they can easily fit into most budgets!

Valentine Inspiration

As the smell of chocolates, perfume, and candy fill the streets this Valentine’s Day take a few minutes to step back and simplify yours. Here are a few tips to inspire you.

If you have kids, do what Danielle is doing and throw a Toddler Valentine’s Day Extravaganza! Find fun activities for the kids such as arts and crafts or baking cupcakes!

Instead of going out to an overbooked restaurant, eat in! Nothing is more romantic than having a secluded, candle lit dinner cooked exclusively by you. Spend the evening proclaiming your love for one another without any interruptions from a waiter eager to bring the check and get the next tip-payer seated.

It’s easy to run into a store and pick up yet another generic gift. This year, to give that special someone something truly original and from the heart, try making something yourself. Find out what they like and work from that. Here is an idea we spotted from a crafter online who loves cherry blossom trees:

The girls at CUE hope these ideas help spark your own romantic creativity and wish you a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dress of the Week: Butter by Nadia

This week we’re featuring the designer of the Signature convertible wrap dress, Nadia Tarr, and her collection Butter by Nadia.

This bridesmaid’s dress is remarkable in the fact that it can be designed into any style you choose. With a variety of different styles for the front and back of the garment, there are an innumerable combination of dresses to be customized. Techniques for achieving these looks can be obtained through a private session with Nadia or downloaded from her website, http://butterbynadia.com.

The versatility of this dress is what makes it so unique, charming and elegant. We’ve chosen to feature the lovely Verdant color. This emerald green hue was hailed as being one of the colors of the season at the Golden Globes and is expected to carry through red carpet season. Nadia’s designs have been seen on celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Jordan Sparks and Laila Ali.

It’s that time of year again! When friends and family come together to support their favorite team, or, as the case may be, come together to face off and cheer for opposing teams! Here are a few simple ideas to make your Super Bowl gathering more exciting.

First, no party would be complete without the banners or colors of your favorite team. This year it’s a tough choice between two old school teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. You can pick one or have a bit of flare for both! Lay out a green table cloth to represent the gridiron and set up the team gear on opposite sides.

And no Super Bowl Party would be complete with out a hearty, tasty treat. This year try a great slow cooker chili recipe. Using turkey meat instead of ground beef can be a healthier option.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 cup diced onion
  • 3/4 cup diced celery
  • 3/4 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (10.75 ounce) cans tomato puree
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can cannellini beans with liquid
  • 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

  1. Place the beef in a skillet over medium heat, and cook until evenly brown. Drain grease.
  2. Place the beef in a slow cooker, and mix in onion, celery, green bell pepper, garlic, tomato puree, kidney beans, and cannellini beans. Season with chili powder, parsley, salt, basil, oregano, black pepper, and hot pepper sauce.
  3. Cover, and cook 8 hours on Low

Finally, make this non-holiday count! Make this Super Bowl Sunday a SOUP-er Bowl Sunday. When sending out your invitations or calling friends, ask each attendee to bring a can or two of soup. Find a local shelter or food bank that is accepting donations and drop of your charitable gift to make someone’s February a little brighter! 🙂

Have a Happy Super Bowl!! Goooooooo [your team’s name inserted here]!!!!!
